The brief
The plot fronted a six-lane road that could not be closed, and a nine-storey residential block sat two metres from the rear boundary. The water table was 3.5 m below ground with a sandy layer that had already collapsed a trial trench.
Programme mattered more than money: the superstructure contractor had a fixed start date eleven weeks out.
What we did
One contractor from the borelog to the final test certificate.
Six boreholes to 45 m with SPT and permeability testing, completed inside two weeks.
800 mm panels to 38 m with a 2 m toe into stiff clay, sequenced to keep the road frontage open.
Three anchor levels, 6-strand, proof-loaded to 1.5× working load with full test certificates.
Pre-condition survey and weekly settlement readings on the neighbouring block throughout.

On site
“They took a 38 m wall through mixed strata next to a live road without a single crack in the neighbouring building. The daily records alone were worth the contract.”
